CAPE SAN BLAS LIGHT HOUSE KEEPERS QUARTERS
Creation....
Believe in the unseen Expect the Incredible
The Cape San Blas Lighthouse Keepers Quarters had virtually slid into the ocean before Gulf County Historical Society, General Contractor Peter Brown Constructionand New Millennium Construction a unique company specializing in Historical Restorations, facilitated the relocation of the house onto more stable ground in order to facilitate the preservation and restoral of 90% of the original Keepers House.
The project completed on May 17, 2005 with Outstanding Achievement, and Florida Trust for Historic Preservation 2006 Statewide Award Winner for Outstanding Achievement Restoration/Preservation 2008 Regional Award.
The house had been badly damaged from hurricanes and had fallen into disrepair. This project included structural stabilization, extensive interior and exterior renovations, and new roofing . Manausa Lewis & Dodson Architectsdid extensive research both on site and through historical documentation that could be found pertaining to the house, so that we could restore the house as per the Secretary of Interior guidelines and hurricane codes. Original paint colors were found and matched and the house was restored to its original glory.
The house is now situated adjacent to the Cape San Blas Lighthouse and serves as a museum.
